The United Reformed Church

Various denominations of Christian Churches have evolved throughout history, and we are a part of the denomination formed in 1972, the United Reformed Church. It is a "congregational" - based church, which means the members make decisions (by means of a majority vote) regarding the direction of the local church.   This gives each local church independancy that, at Newquay URC, we value. 

We confess that we are Conservative Evangelicals in a denomination which has a liberal emphasis. We realise this creates tensions within our churchmanship in the URC as a whole.  However, we gladly bear any reproach that may come as a result of holding firmly to the evangelical position.

The United Reformed Church is divided into regions within the UK.  We are a part of the South Western Synod, whose moderator is the
